Carbon Depth or Bed of Carbon pertains to the thickness of the carbon filter. This is extremely important when filtering for VOCs, Chemicals, Fumes, and odors. The thicker the carbon filter, increases Dwell Time inside the carbon filter. 

Dwell Time is important when filtering for VOCs, as the longer the air stays inside the carbon filter, the better the filtration, which means overal better air filtration. When air is restricted inside the carbon filter, this increases the chance of VOCs being properly filtered, as opposed to fast Dwell time, where the carbon doesn't have a chance to filter VOCs properly, as air is being forced through the carbon filter, if the carbon filter is i.e. only 1" thick. 

Carbon Blends also play a crucial role in filtering VOCs to the best capacity. 

Activated Carbon is the most effective and widely used media for removing airborne Chemcials, Gases, and Odors. The power of activated carbon lies in it's incredible microscopic porous structure that is capable of adsorbing and retaining toxic airborne pollutants.
